It is estimated that damage to th* extent of was caused by the recent bush fires m the Albury district. Several of the rabbits inoculated with . chicken cholera microbes died after the lapse of several days. A mass meeting was held here tonight on the Chinese question. Several resolutions were passed, and a deputation from the meeting waited on the Premier, who replied that the Government were taking all possible steps to prevent the Chinese passengers by the Afghan landing here. A young man, named Brennan, has been sentenced to four years' imprisonment for the part he played m concealing the birth of an illegitimate child of which he was the putative father. The father of the girl had Brenan arrested for forgery, and the latter swore out of revenge that the girl and her mother had murdered his illegitimate child. The case then resolved itself into one of concealment of birth, and the guilty action from the evidence adduced was fastened on Brennan.
