SOUTH RAKAIA ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of this Board waß hold on| Monday. Present Mvssrs Go -;ter, Lyttel- 1 ton, Stringfellow, Mulligan and J. Turner. The Returning Officer reported that Messrs Uoater and J. Turner were elected members of the Board. Oq the motion of Mr Mulligan, Eeoonded by Mr Lyttelt.m, Mr Coster wa« unanimously elected Chairman for tho ensuing twelve mmthn. A letter from the County Ooauoll was read to the effect that the County Hospital oonld receive all oases from the district, and that as all oases ssnt to Ohriatcharoh had to bo piid for by the Afhbnrton Hospital Botrd, the Eoad Board were requested to make the matter known.— lt was recolved to have uotloaa to this effect printed, aud to advertise the same for one month In the 11 Ashburton Mail," twice In the "Weekly Press" and twice In the •' Canterbury Times." The County Council wrote asking for information respecting the reserve near Dolan'a.— Ths Clerk to reply that thia had not bean planted with trees as yet. Permission waß granted Mr Gill to plough the sides of roads alongside his property for the purpose of killing gorse plants A letter wai reoelved from the Publlo Trust offioe, stating that the late George White's land wai sold to Mr Edwin White, and requesting that the roll be altered. — Resolved to make the necesoary alterations and notify the present owner. Messrs Wilding and Lewis wrote requesting that the surplus proceeds or the sale of Mr Mcln tyre's horse from the pound be forwarded, o herwise legal proceedings would be taken,— The Clerk oa refeiring to t&e pound -book reported that Ihere waa a surplus, but it had never been applied for. — Resolved to reply that no application for a refund had ever b3en received, and that if a proper application was made, and the Board satisfied that Mr Mdntyre was the owner, the money would be paid over. It was resolved lo expand £15 m the purchase of poisoned grain from Messrs Brooks and Cambridge. it was deoieed to advertiee the Board receipts and expenditure io the "Ashburton Mail." . Resolved that Mr J A. Smith be granted 5s for extinguishing a fire oa a road near the cemetery Mr Stringfell'W complained that occupiers Of land did not clean their water racea, and the obstructions caused overflows, and duruage to roads ; be thought as the Board had to keep the roads ia order, it should have power to compel occupiers lo keep raoes clear— The Chairman stated that complaints should go to the CouQty Council. • Mr Keycraf t applied for permission to erect a verandah over the footpath — k member stated that the work waß done. — Permission was granted. The depirtmetit forwarded a copy of the new instructions with regard to auditors — The Treasury department wrote enoloslng £93 15* portion of subsidy on r&tea collected. Permission was granted for the County Roll to be on view m the office. Mr T. Oronln'a tenders for forming a portion of Ohertsey Boundary road foi £50 and making crossings on aame £12 were accepted — Tho Board went into committee Id regard to complaints against the poundkeaper, and on resuming it was resolved " that the preeent poundkeepar be given one month's notioe of the termination of his engagement and that tenders be called for the office, either for a stated sum oi for a proportionate part of the feea"— Accounts for £55 18j 7d were passec for payment arid tha meeting adjourned.
