Melbourne:, May 2, Sailed — Te Anau, for the Bluff, via Hobart.fjphe takes ioo Chinese. At an influential public meeting it was resolved to ask the Government to introduce a Bill imposing a Chinese poll tax of and a residential tax of -£20. The meeting strongly pro* tested against relegating to the Imperial Government the rtght to legislate on the Chinese question, as it was a matter purely fot the Colonies to consider.
