There waa no interest shown m the South ' Bakaia distriot with regard to the Boad Board ' matters on Tuesday, and therefore no eleotion. Messrß E. S. Coster and E. Mr Lillywhite, the manager of the team, wished a guarantee of £50 before playing, and the Union has oloaed with his terms. Circulars have been sent out to all the Clubs m the Union to help to raise the guarantee, and success so far has been the result. The English team play their return matoh to-day with Otago, and tomorrow evening will pass through Ashburton - en route for Christohuroh, where they play on Saturday. In oonsequenoa of a looal whioh had appeared m that evening's issue of the " Guardian" stating that the Guards intended holding their first social the same evening, the (majority of those present did not favor the idea of holding theirs tha same evening, aa it would olash with the Guards. A Committee was appointed to consider the matter, and it was resolved " That a sooial be held, but m consequenoe of the Ashburton Guards holding one on the 24th May, that it be held on a date to fixed after the 24th (probably two or three weeks later)."
