Sydney, May 1, In consequence of the sequestration of the estate of Mr W. H. MacCulloch, junr., M.P. fof Central Cumberland, the seat has been declared vacant. One thousand pounds to eight hundred has been laid on Hanlan for the aquatic race on Saturday. A ballast train ran off the rails on the Northern line this evening, and was completely wrecked. The fireman , and driver had a very narrow escape. Government have decided to replace i the present trams by the cable system. Druitt, manager of the Commercial Bank at Tinonee, has been committed for trial on a charge of embezzling \ Cardinal Mdran denies the truth of j the statement to the effect that he is to succeed Archbishop Walsh, of Dublin.
