LORD WOLSELEY ON THE BRITISH NAVY.
Lord Woleeley presided at the annual dinner of the North London R fle Ulub, held at the Holborn Restaurant, recently. He said that, considering the duties the nary had to perform, and the Important Interests It had to guard, It could not be said we had a sufficient cumber of shlpß afloat. He waa one of those foolish people who believed In the possibility of invasion and if any disaster befell oar fleet our •hopes would be at once open to invasion, and the military forces would have hard work, If oar home fleet were defeated. there would at once be a ory to reoali every ship we had abroad, leaving the protection of commercial routes and the guarding of the means of food supply. He confessed to feeling strongly on this point, because the navy waa not near so strong as it should be. \n regarded the army, as far as It went It was m a very satisfactory condition.
