WAKANUI.
The annual meeting [of householders was hold m tho main schoolroom on the 23rd inst. Thera was a rather meagre attendance. Mr David Johnston wai voted to tho chair, and as Ohairman of the Commutes read the Committee's report fcr tho past year, which ran briefly as follow* :— The Oomtnlttee had to report a considerable increase la the n amber of pupils, there being 81 on the roll as against 69 last year. They regretted to say that the Inspectoral report of the annual examinations of the schools was not a favorable one. Theft however, agreed with tha opinion, of the Inspector that the present staff of teaohen wao not responsible for the failures, there being no lobs than Jour different teachers m the course of the year. The floods, too, la October, seriously intorfered with the preparations for examination when time was precious. The Committee had again to call attention to the great Irregularity of attendance at the mala school, and they would earnestly urge upon parents to aid the teachers by striving to keep their children at school. Tho Committee were pleased at the eatltfaotory report on tho lower standards at the main Bohool, under the management of the mistress, and having every confidence m the present teaching staff, they looked forward to a highly satisfactory report next year. A (statement of receipts and] expend I. turo was then read. Mr Job. Brown movad the adoption of the report and balanoe-sheeto —Me Stewart seconded. — Xhe c motion was carried unanimously. The eleotion of a now Committee was then proceeded with, whioh resulted m the folio winggentiemon being ohosen; — Messrs D. Johnston, Peter Stewart, Ohas, Hill, Jan. Brown, D. Leddy, T. Walsh, N, Fitzgerald. At a meeting of the newly elected Committee Mr P. Stewart was eleoted Chairman.
