POPULATION OF AUSTRALASIA.

(Received April 25, 315 p m.) Sydney, April 25 The Government Statist, in his report states that the progress of the population of the Australasian Colonies shews that the births last year were 120.000, being an average per thousand of population of 34*43, the deaths were 47,500, being an average of 13*64 per thousand. New Zealand showed the . lowest birth-rate, viz., 31 71; also the j lowest death-rate, 10-17. The immigra tion was 247,000, and the emigration 182,000. The excess of immigrants to, over the emigrants from New Zealand was only 977.
