Auckland, April 24. The second eleotioi of a Lioenalng Committee for the Waipa district, which took place yesterday, resulted m the return of all the prohibition candidates by a larger majority than before.
A meeting of tradesmen and others interested m the Early Closing Bill waß held this evening when a resolution was passed endorsing the principle of that measnre, and hoping that It would speedily become law. A vote of thanks was given to M6SBrs J jyce and Goldle and other members of the General Assembly who had ablated the movement.
Wellington, April 24 A Frenohman named La Morte was drowned at Castle Point la3fc night. He was crossing a reef to fiah when the waves washed him away. The body h*s been recovered.
