I The annoal meeting of householders waa held la the Schoolroom on Monday evening. Mr Pyke ocoapled the ohalr and there was a moderate atteodanoe. Mr Broadbent read a report from the outgoing Committee a? follows : — four Committee In presenting their annual re« port have very great pleasure In congratulating the householders of the district on having at length got the whole of the land, known aa the school grounds, properly made over to the district for educational purposes. By ereoting a new fence and removing the old one, the ohildren's play ground is more than donble Its former bj'z9, and affords ample scope for all gymnastio purposes and healthful recreation. The fences have been pat m repair and the ground m gcod general order. The Road Board haß roughly formed Cridlaod street, and the danger from tusaook fires m that quarter Is no*r removed. During the latter part of the year a scare arose about diphtheria, and the Committee deemed it best to oloae the Bchool for a fortnight. The buildings were thoroughly fumigated and the danger passed without serious results. Complaints having frequently been made that the children often used water for drinking purposes which had become stale In the tanks, or foul from roof and other deposits, the pump had been discharged and a good and always to be relied upon pomp supplied by the Education Board, and there should now always be a supply of freah well water. The members of the Committee have frequently visited theschooldurlngthe past year, and are satisfied that the teaching Btuff are fulfilling their duties m pvery respeot and evincing a desire to meet the wishes of the Committee, The number on the roll for the year fß2ir7» Strict average atteodanoe ; Boys, 82 2 j girls, 62*9 j total, 145 1 Working average : Boys, 85 ; girls, 659 ; total, 150 % 9. Owing to the liberality of a number of gentlemen and the kindness of Miss Tonng the Committee were enabled to arrange for ■, 100 children to take part m the Queen's Jubilee celebration at Ashburton, Thirteen Committee meetings have been held during the year, and the following are the attou<ianoes :— Wm, Broadbent 13, Pyke 12, Oxloy, Windsor, and Johnston 9, Stewart 8, and J, Turner 7, and the Oommltteo have worked well together with a goodwill for the best interests of the'aohool; Af the eqbepl treat the Committee economised as mnoh ds poEßlb|e for the pnrpose of giving prizes foe regular attendance, and would maka a recommendation to the new Committee to do likewise. They would also venture to recommend the next Committee to apply for an lnspeotlbn of tho lohooj m Jane ' The Committee commenced the year with a credit balance of £10 0a 2d, and have pleasure m reporting that after paying all carrent expenses they are enabled to hand over a balanoe of £11 18a Bd. Tae tot»l receipts for the year were £531 13s 4d, and the expenditure £519 14s Bd. On the motion of Mr Broadbent, - c ndtd by Mr Osborne, the report was
Mr Pyke moved a vote of thanks to the teaching staff, seconded by Mr Mskelg, abd oar>ied unanimously, Mr D.'xon the head master returned thanks for hlmsalf aad-on behalf of the other teachers. On the motion of Mr Osborne, seoo'nded by Mr A. Olark, a unanimous vote of thanks was -accorded the outgoing Committee, Eleven gentlemen were nominated ai members of the Committee and the voting resulted m the return of the following In the order given ; Messrs Broadbent, A t Clark, IMoDowdl, Makeig, Pyke, Dowling and J. Turner. Meagre J, Wilkinson and 0. W. Turner conducted the eleotion. A vote of thanks to the chafe brought the meeting to a oloae. The Committee then met and Me Pyke waa elected Chairman and undertook to aot as Treasurer and Secretary. Routine business wra attended to and accounts for £11 6s passed for payment. It waa resolved to meet at 7 30 on the first Wednesday of each month at the Library if permission could be obtained; The meeting then adjourned.
