Sydney, April 18. Veitch, a mine manager at Dubbo, has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment for manslaughter for the death of a miner who was killed through defects m a mine of which Veitch was manager. Veitch neglected to remedy the defect upon receiving notification from the Inspector of Mines. At the auction of the discarded warships to day the Undine was passed m. The Harrier was sold for p£i2oo. (? ,£12,000.) A silver lode has been discovered at Rivertree, near Tentevfield, which is, yielding from 400Z to 1300Z to the ton. The severest panic m silver stock since the recent boom commenced is now being experienced. The higher priced shares of the several Broken Hill Companies have suffered most, but all stocks show a very heavy decline. The shrinkage of stock at the Old Exchange alone amounts to a quarter of a million. The Government have practically agreed to the request of the Rabbit Conference to set aside an island off the coast and a tract of country inland for the purpose of testing the various methods forextermination. M, Pasteur's agent has been licensed to introduce microbes into the colony, and steps will be at once taken to fence m a thousand acres inland for the purpose of experimenting with the microbes. Two station holders' have offered to place their runs at the disposal of M. Loir for this purpose.
