Melbourne, April 17. In view of the promised revision of the tariff during the ensuing session, 1 the various industries are agitating for increased protective duties. Mr Gillies has written to Sir Henry Parkes with reference to the proposed establishment of a cartridge factory,' expressing the willingness of the Government of Victoria to take ammunition from a factory m Australia whenever established, and urging Sir H. Parkes to withdraw his objection and arrange ,with Captain Whitney for a site. The Executive have authorised the Agent-General to purchase war material for the colony to the amount of ;£9 6 > O °°-
