DEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER.

Chkistghuroh, April 11.
A deputation of the Knights of Labor waited on the Premlec to-day m regard to various matters. Sir EL Atkinson said that the Government would do wrong to interfere with leal bodies m the admlnistration of Charitable Aid. With regard to men being obliged to leave their homes, it was not the duty of the Government to provide work near them, nor oould he promise it, for he did not admit their right to olaim it. He would like it to be understood that prisoners must work for their living, though as far as possible they should not be allowed to compete with froe labor. The 80-called exodus from the oolony did not distress him at all, nor was he going to be induced on that account to do what he did not think right No doubt the oolony had been losing during the last month, but up to that time it had not. He believed that those now going away would m A few yeara return, eaoh with tiro or three friends.
