AN INSANE BARONET
The following, from its Auckland correspondent, appears m the Christchurch "Telegraph": — feomo little time ago a gentleman who signs •• Bart, G08.," after his name, whosa claim to a title cannot be disputed, and was confined m our Old Men's Refuge, being id a destitute condition, bnt owing to his strange actions be iias since been removed to Avondale Lunatic Asylum. Ho writes from that institution to one of the evening papers the following strangely worded letter : —
" Governor Jervoia, without any cause, sent a telegram on the 10th of January to have me arrested as a dangerous lunatic, and I have been a prisoner here over since. I have sent for my eolicito? to come and take mo out by writ of Habeas Corpus, but ho delays to come. I wish to call public attention to this gross case of fa! Be imprisonment ; I mnst also tell a'l the men that the Lord Jesus Christ came to reign on earth on the 19th of October last, and has commanded me to make His advent known to all. By his command I have written to twenty seven rulers of States and Churches The Emperor of Russia was the first to obey. He immediately tent Home 20,C00 of his forces, and the Lord being pleased at this bade me write him a second letter to say bo, and that no weapon forged ngainst him should prosper, but that be Bhonld be Emperor of Russia for ever, Any observant eye can see the difference under the Prince of Peace to what the world was before the 19th October. I wish aho to warn^ all rneb, good and bad, that the great day of judgment will be here m less than seven years, and unlesn the people stndy such Scriptures as the Revelations 5 and 11 they will bo frightened to death at tbe sights and sounds If you insert this m your paper I will send at intervals something worth attention concerning coming events, the Lord having mado me His Fourteenth Apostle and Minister of State."
