Herr Gorlitz saw the Prinoess start on the memorable ride of 480 miles which she made on the eve of the battle of Gravelotte, arriving at tho scene of the oonfliot only m time to recover the dead body of her hUßband from the field. The widowed Princess at onoe joined the ambulance corps, and distinguished herself by her untiring devotion to her duty and general popularity m the army throughout tho war. About three years ago Herr Gorlitz was dining with the American Consul m one of the Nova Scotian towns, when he recognised a portrait on the wall as that of his former ohief, and to his great astonishment; he that his host's wife was (a sister of the Prinoess, and before leaving the house he was shown a number of relios of the lady and and her ill-fated husband.
