Fires. Auckland, April 9. Last night a 10 rcomei house at Ladies Wile, Remuera, owned by F. C. Kean — oooupied by Mrs J. Jame3, was destroyed by fire. No one was m the house at ih.9 time but a kerosene lamp had been left burning and it is supposed to have oaused the fire. Insurance — house, £400 South British ; furniture, £270 Equitable. Wanganui, April 9. Af ire occurred at Waverley on Saturday night, by which Muir's general store Waß destroyed. The fire broke out at 1030 m the upper portion of the building, where matches and the reserve Block were stored. A considerabe quantity of stock was saved. Joseph Gore Osborue pleaded guilty to forgtng a cheque for £23 and was placed under probation for two years. James Buokley was found guilty of larceny and was sentenced to three years probation.
