THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL.

London, April 6. Many of the members of the Tory party are determined not to adopt as a whole the Local Government Bill introduced by the Government, and it is thought that if the Government persist m forcing through the Bill they may be defeated. The Radicals are exultant. The Rev. Hugh Price Hughes is making a crusade against the licensing clauses m the Local Government Bill. He objects to the recognition of vested interests and the local option clause, which he characterises a mockery, as by surrendering a portion of the license fees to local bodies it will encourage the ratepayers to decide m favor of an increase of licensed houses.
