CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER.

Dunedin, April 5. A middle-aged man named George Obald, a painter, living m Stafford avenue has been arrested on a charge of attempting the murder of hla wife. He came home the worse for drink and his wife left htm about midnight and went to bed. She was woke up by finding her husband tumbling about m the bed, and when she notloed him she found he had a knife m his hand. He aefzad her by the head and attempted to draw the knife soroas her throat. She succeeded m seising the knife bnt not before he had inflicted a slight wound under her chin. In the struggle the hlade of the knife came oat of the handle. The wound Is of the slightest oharaoter. Latke. Ohald was brought up at the Polloe Court and discharged. Hit action waa merely the result of a drunken spree, and his wife was not certain whether he had a knife m his hand.
