Eight wild wolves arrived at Sanger'a Amphitheatre on the morning of Fob. 11, and ware placad m a o?ge la one of the Btabloa at the rear of the building, m which were seventeen valuable performing horaea. A few mlnutea after midnight the keepers heard an unusual commotion m the stable, and on going to see what was the matter, fonnd that the wolves had oecap.d from their cage and had attacked ooe of the horses, and were tearing the flesh from the neck and other parts of the 1 body m a terrible fa3hlon*. One of the keepers named Taylor, seeing the danger to the remaining sixteen horaea, with great bravery entered the etables, and, notwithstanding that several of the wolvea attacked him, he succeeded m getting the sixteen horaea out of the stable while the wolvoa were engaged devouring the carcase of the horse whioh they had killed. An iron gate was plaoed at the doorway of the stable, and the wolvea wore left with the remains of the horae'a carcase. On the afternoon of Feb. Vi the wolves were successfully caged. A new cage had been received, and the door at one end of the stable was opened, being guarded by a party of men armed with aiicka, who drove the wolvea to tha opposite end till the cage was placed m position, and the door closed, The men then proceeded to the opposite corner where a door was opened, and the trainer, with an assistant entered the den. The wolves resented this Intrusion, and growled ferociously, »nd for some minutes it was expected that they would fly at the keepers. By the vigorous use of sticks, however, the animals was kept at a dlstanoe while a barrier waa fixed up to jjnlde them to the cage. While this was being done one of the largest of the wolves showed fight, and flaw at the men, but, fortunately, on receiving a blow from a stick, retired sullenly to the darkest corner, For some time all efforts to make the animals entet the cage were futile ; but eventually, after about twenty minutes' driving, they were all securely fastened m their cage. Mr Sanger has expressed his Intention of rewarding tbe bravery of Taylor with a present of £100.
