Sydney, March 31. The Minister of Public Works intends to effect radical reforms m the Working Railways Department. A recent investigation of the working of the department shows that a great waste of money has been going on. Sydney, April 1. Some excitement has been caused by the announcement that a case of small* pox had broken out near the city. It appears that a two-year-old child of Mr Allen Lakeman, M.L.A. for Balronald, who resides at Manly, nine miles north of here, has been attacked with the dreaded disease. The case was reported on Saturday night, and steps were at once taken to have the family removed into quarantine and the house disinfected. The health authorities are, m consequence of the outbreak, refusing to issue clean bill of clearance to vessels leaving the port.
