The Petane Hotel was destroyed by fire last night. Nothing wae saved, the proprietor and family and boarders narrowly esctping with their lives. One boarder had to throw himself out of an nppar window, and was caught m a blanket. The Insurances are all m tho Union offico. The Hotel is insured for £2000 and the furniture and atock for £1000. H.M.S. Calliope. Kelson, March 24. Crowda of people are goiug out m the steamer to see B.M S. Calliope lying m the coadatead. She aaila for Sydney tonight. Found Dead. Udnbdin, March 24. The body of a man named John Ourle was found on tho Towu.Btlt this morning. Deceased who has been missing several days was €6 yeara oid. He was a tinsmith and resided at Regent street, Mornington. He leaves a second wife and a grown op family. There were no marks of violence and foal play is not inspected. A.n inquest will be held. Mining. The Roxburgh claims are at a standstill owing to the high state of the river. The Blnespnr claims * been definitely sold, though a strong „ ag exists against Including tailings. The paid-up capital will be £15,000 lees m consequence.
