Sydney, Maroh 22 The man Carroll who stated he was the perpetratur of the Eltham murder has been released from custody m consequence of the receipt of a cable message from the authorities of Scotland Yard intimating that he could not be the murderer Upon being released from custody Carroll remarked that he had had a very narrow escape, and that for the future the best thing he could do would be to keep away from drink and hold his tongue.
The search for the bodies of the three men and a boy who are supposed to have been drowned m Botany Bay last Sunday has proved futile up to the present.
Several more tram accidents have occurred recently. This morning a man was knocked jfyvyn |™ a tram motor and killed. ' "' Two other Corporations Jiave discovered frayd? by tbeir officers. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the Bourke Town Clerk m consequence of defalcations which have been discovered m his accounts. At another place it has been found that* payments have been made three times over for work. The Engineer m the latter case js suspected of complicity m the fraud.
