THE RAKAIA TRAGEDY.
A Magisterial Inquiry was held at the Addington Gaol yesterday, before Mr J Ollivier, into the circumstances attending tho death of the child of Martha Da!ze!l, m the Rakaia river on December 29th, 1887, The delay m the holding of this inquiry had been caused by the indisposition of the mother, who only now has sufficiently recovered from her immersion to be able to appear. The charge against Martha Dalzell was that on the 29th December, 1887, at R ikaia, she did feloniously, wilfully, and of malice aforethought kill and murder her eon, Thoinac B Dalzell.
Sergeant Felton conducted tho prosecution, and explained that the prisoner whb undefended that day. Mr Wilding would defend her m the Supreme Court The evidence taken was m all respects similar to that at the inquest on the body of the boy, and a full report of which has already appeared m these co'umns. The accused reserved her defence, and was committed to Uke her trial at the coming sessions of the Supreme Court.
