The Emperor Frederick's messages to the Landtag and to the Reichstag, m which he solemnly promises to adhere to the Constitution, were read with applause. Prince Bismarck, m moving that the thanks of the Eeichstag be given to friendly Powers at their expression of sympathy on the occasion of Kaiser Wilhelm's death, referred m a marked manner to the touching signs of sorrow displayed at the Antipodes, which he declared was unprecedented m the annals of history. The people of the Antipodes, he continued, desired to lay wreaths and palms on the monarch's tomb. The Emperor Frederick proclaims that he is determined to preserve Alsace and Lorraine, and to cultivate German ideas and opinions there.
