(PER PRBBS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, Maroh 19. The petitions lodged respecting the reaent licensing eleotiona m Auckland North were considered to-day before Ju'lge Smith. Petitions have, been lodged by both parties ; the moderates, who were defeated, protesting against the retorn of the temperance candidates on the ground that the nominations were hot delivered m time or m proper form, whilst the temperance parly alao object that the nominations of the moderates were irregular. Judge Smith reserved judgment. It was arranged that hia decision m this case should also settle similar petitions which have been entered by both parties with reference to the Auckland South licensing election. Wellington, Maroh 19, It la stated that the Assistant Railway Ooromleslonenj are not to be appointed untii the Office of Chief Commissioner haß been filled, which will not be for some little time yet, as the testimonials of half a d( zsn candidates whom the AgentGeneral oonsidera suitable are to be sent out to the Government. The inaugural meeting of the first Confer en cc of the loduatrial Protection Aaaoolation took place to-day. The follow* ing representatives were present ; — Mr , Shepherd representing Industrial Aesoolation of Auckland, MeßsrgT.K McDonald, J. Dxansfield, Hildreth, Chalmers, and the Officers of the Wellington Aseooiatlon representing the JNow Zealand Industral Protection ABaoolation of Wellington ; Mr Bellhouse representing the New Zealand Protection .Association of Ohrlstohurch ; Mr Kirk, representing the Industrial Association of Ohrlstohurch ; Mr Hodge, representing the Protection League of Dunedin ; Mr Mackintosh and Mr Jas. Stowart, representing the Protection League of Southland. It was unanimously resolved that each centre should have four votes. Mr Shepherd of Auckland, was unanimously eleoted President, and Mr J. Dransfield of Wellington, Vioa-Preaidont of the Conference.
Some children playing ab the seaside thia evening found a parcel wrapped m calico. Upon examination it proved to be the body of a male child aboat seven days old. It is thought to be another case of infanticide, as the neok wbb braised.

A man named Oonnell was received Into the Lawrence Hospital suffering from a wound m the groin, believod to be caused by a stab. He died shortly afterwards. Very fow particulars are to hand ; but, co far as ia known, it appears deceased and othors were m a hotel, when It ia suppoaed they quarrelled and a man named Moßorle stabbed him. The police have Bet out to arrant Moßorle.
