Between White's bridgo and Chaney's Corner he had, m places to swim hli horse. [per press association 1 Christchuboh, March 17 The .heavy freeh ia the Waimakariri resulted at 1 a.m. m a breach boing mnde m the embankment. All the lower part of the town (of Kaiapoi) waa flooded About six o'ciock afgnß of abatement appeared, and now (1 p.m.) the worst is over. Much damage aud distress will be caused. The water was within 3ft of the June flood of last year. The darkness of the nfgbt rendered the saving of life and property much more difficulty than then. The fireball was rung at 1 a.m. and plenty of boatß and drays were available. A good deal of the surrounding country Is under water. No damage was done to tbe railway. _^__^_________
