BURVKYOR8 1 RK.POKT. The Snrvpy>ra report was rr-ad aa follows :— (1) Lonsjbeach Road — Tenders were invited and one accepted f <r making drain along part of the west eide of this ""mad, to drain road into creek near Frisby'o. The work has bpen done satisfaotorlly. We would call th« attention of the Board to the state of this creek which m of little use m its present state, being blooked op with watorcresi and other vegetation, we do not t> ink »ny <>f >h • local bodies can interfere m tho matter of cleaning out creeks except at their own expense, the subject la one of cr>a' Importance to ratepayers as the impeding t f the national drain +pc of the o unity b having a disastrous effect on properties, not only on those immediately conournHrt, bnt others who a-e snff ring on account of diversion.— Th» matter is one f h*t cannot be dealt with by the Rnad Board bain? beyond the reach of their income.—'* culvett on this road having beo< nn unsafe we have had a ford made m li-u thereof, and have also hid some if t^e we k places on the road motaikd. - (2) Hinds Rr>ad : Tie me'a'li»-g of t'.»« road, authorised it U«t meeting, has b*en duly completed.- (3) Pxplarßoad : TnemikiDa of eHe drain on this road h»s been compUted.- (4) Brown's Road : The contractors have completed tbelr work on this road.— (s) Bridges: The old bridg sln the diatrio* are gradually being renewed, the cost of doing thi » is becoming a l»r c Itt-m m the Board's exp ndlture.— (6) Dan, Longbench R>ad : We have inspected this drain wh eh the Mess's Chapman have applied to h>ive widened he present drain m a diversion of fcl» e creek coming from M-bb-b Chapman's paddock, and thence crosses the road an • passes through Mr Btnddart's prooerty hack into Chapman's, Hensley's, Pramp ton's, etc., to the LDnnbeHO^ ceek, The dlvbmon 1b from Chapman's to enaley'* corner and thenoe to the creek Tbe portion from creek to gate is full of vegetation and a quantity o£ gorae ts tfrow'ng at the aide. The othpr portion, though not impeded so much, requires, no donbt. widening and deepening to oarry • S extra storm water. We do not eet< the reason why the diversion m the first place should have been taken all al>n;.< the road, thereby necessitating a large open ditch on a rod having a great, amount of fc'iffic, bun being done we presume the drain must be kept clear for the water. — (7) Waterton New Ro*.rf ; We have examined the culvert complained of at last meeting where it ia asked to have a ford made, tbe reason being that the culvert is not capable of carrying the water away m flood time, the culvert ia In line with the natural creek and, no doubt, the water way should not be impeded, it la to be considered whether the diversion of part of this creek water aud the making of large ford at Mosea' corner does not considerably alleviate the Inconvenience complained of. We also point out that the fence across the creek at the lower side backs the water up, but then against this is, that a drain had been made at the corner alfuded to to oarry this water off. Th ! s is ano her Instance which bdowb the advisability of following natural f»atoro>urfles for drainage CIaUBB 1. — It was deeded to draw the County Oouucil'i attention to thu necessity of legislation m the matter of keepiug natural waterooorses clear, Cliuae 6— The Board decided they would contribute ha £ cost of work r* quired to He done m w denlng and doepeniug. Olauoe 7 — The Surveyors to give notice to have obstruction m nataral water, course removed The report was adopted. mc ennan'b road. The Surv.>orß were lob< rooted to have repairs made >>> bridges on this road.
