LORD C. BERESFORD ON THE NAVY.

Lord Charles Beres'ord, speaking at the United Service Institute, said tha* the navy was quite inadequate for the defence of British trade, and that the wh le system vas utterly rotten. His L >rdship expressed the opinion that the mercantile marine would render valuable assistance m the event of war.
