S)me months ago a Mr Babe, well known acrosß the Channel for hia fancy for (rotting horses, bought a hone called Diogenes, half Normandy *»nd half thorough-bred, and mada a bet with Si friend that he would cover seventy five miles m nine hours, drawing a vehicle tilth two occupaata. The event came off on the above date at Longchamps, m tha presence of a dense crowd of spectators and bookmakers. Tho s> art wa* made at 8 a.m., and the bet was woa at 4 57 p.m.. daring which lima the horse complotod the 123 kilometers, or seveuty-fivo milee. At twelve o'clock th« owner Bat down to lunohocn, lasting an hour, during which time the horße was taken out of hatneßa, and given some hot watec. His action ia described aa Bupsrb, and he ia said to have shown no algn of punishment. Here we have a caao of nine mlloß an hour for eight hours, and one hour's reat half way.
