A protest was this afternoon lodged against Volunteer Cox, of Auckland, on the ground of wearing a puggaree to his cap, and there is some talk of protesting against Major Purnell, on the ground that he belongs to the honorary stuff, and is not on the aotive Met, but nothing Is likely to come of either objection. Tola afternoon the North Otago Matoh (opan to all comers, to count for both belts) and the Weat Coast matoh (carbines only) were commenced, »nd will be completed to-morrow. It will be seen from the aggregate scores given below that Gunner Lumsden, of Auckland, has inoreaaed his lead for tho Carbine Championship, and looks like carrying the belt oft. For the Rifla Obarnplonshlp the Ocago men hold prominent positions, though Captains White and Little are by no tnea<>s out of the running.
