Sydney, February 28. Kellas Watson, the man who. was sentenced to death for shooting at Thos. Parker, a publican, m the early part of last month with intent to muraer him, has had the sentence commuted to penal servitude for life three years of the sentence to be served m irons. Parker, the victim of theoutrage, is recovering from the effects' 1 of the bullet wound m the neck which he received on the occasion referred to; The accident at the Zigzag colliery, Lithow, yesterday, is attributed to del fective pillaring. The debris \s now being cleared away and it is hoped the r results ot the accident may not be so serious as at first anticipated and that work may be resumed m the mine. The first report, to the effect that the miners were driven out by the fall of earth, was incorrect, it having transpired that there was nobody m the mine at the time of the accident.
The Government have partially given way to the popular feeling at Newcastle against the alteration m the northern railway time table and the old time-table will be adhered to for the present. ■ : ' ■■
