THE HESSIAN FLY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — As you are at all times ready to impiut knowledge on the subject of the insect and other pests of the farm, I may bo allowed to call the attention of your | readers to an able and fully, illustrated paper on tho life histoiy of the Hesßian fly. It is published m the " Leisure Hour " for 1887, and could, 1 euppoee, be obtained m the October sixpenny nurobei of this Journal. It is a reprint of a pamphlet on this dreaded farm pest by Miss Ormerod, Consulting Entomologist to the Royal Agricultural Society of England, and would, I think, prove an excellent guido to farmers unacquainted with the natural history or ravages of the Hessian fly, It doala very fully with the subject, and I recommend all those of your readers who are interested to a perusal of the paper. I am, etc., W. W. Fmith.
