NEW REAPER AND BINDER.

iheTemuka ''Leader" gives the following account of a trial of the Maasey reaper and binder ia that locality : —The latest candidate for popularity m the reaper and binder line is a Canadian \ machine introduced by Messrs Friedlander Bros, cf ABhburton. It is entitled tho Msesey Two-Horse Light Steel Binder, manufactured by tho Company which has given it its name m Toronto, Canada, ana, judging from what ire saw yesterday, it bide fair to come to the front. It was fried m a very heavy crop of wheat belonging to Mr A M. Clark, at ilivorelea, and it worked to the entiro satisfaction of those present. The leading featnre of the machine is that the whole framework of it is steel- an A all m one piece, and thus there is do danger* of it getting oat of the square. It is very compact, and takes up much less apacj than other machines, owing to a large portion of the tying ge»r being underneath: Owing to the driving gear being less cumbersome its draught is much Uwjl jatfrflr m a " h{ "' >n i and two horses can work it with the greatest e.i Be. Another improvement is that it can make ■tv ayes of any eize, or all of them of the same size, and the castings are made of sach material as will not break. The Canadian agent, Mr 0. McLeod, proved tbiß by using pretty freely a hammer on the parts which if made m the o.dinary way would have broken quickly. It i» claimed that the durability of the castings will save not only much annoyance, but a great d#al of money to the purchasers, aa they will not easily break. A feature of the machine was that it made very litttle noise, and that none of Its parts appeared t> ro at any rapid speed, and yet all worked so harmoniously that one could not help tbioking that its mechanicism had been adjusted with great ekill, The farmers who were on the ground spoke m high terms of the way it worked, and signed a testimonial whicu was to the effect that it worked m every way satis factorily, that though small it had a greater capacity than other machines, and that no other machine could do better work. This was signed by Messrs T. l-nrke, A. M. Clark, A. Colville, J Findlay, J. W. Walker, 0 Woodloy, J. B. Wareing, and several others. Those who attended were most hospitaly treated bj Mr A. M. Clark, who had & liberal supply of refreshments on the ground .
