Sydney, February 20. New South Wales won the Centennial rifle match, the prizes for which are a cup, and a cash prize of jQipo South Australia was second and was 36 points behind.
A woman and child were burned to death m a tent near Paramatta. The 1 fire was caused through a candle setting fire to the tent. Three children escaped.
The match between Lillywhite's team and a Newcastle eighteen has resulted m a draw. In their first innings the Englishmen put together 226, the principal scorer being Briggs 80. la their second innings they secured 42 for the*loss of one wicket. The local men made 197 m their second innings, the chief scorers being Wooden 51, Tubb 39. The rainfall during the last year was most bountiful, being 45 per cent above j the average, and evenly distributed.
