A Bpeoial meeting of the Ashburton County Counoil was held this morning. Present — Messrs W, C. Walker (chairman), J. Grigg, Hugo Friedlandor, E. G. Wright, James Brown, and C. J. Harper. The meeting was ca'led for the purpose of passing a eppoial order conveying the leasa of the Mount Somere Tramway to Mr E. F. Wright, coal master, of Mount Somers, for a period of fourteen years. The Counoil some time ago commenced the lease but found that they were unable to oomplete it. The power to complete the lease is, however, given by Clause 22 of the " Publio Works Aot, 1897," ard the meeting passed a Bpeoial order m aooordance with that clause. The Railway Department announoes m another oolutnn excursion farea to Dunedin, for the D.J,O. Autumn Races.
