AUCTIONEER'S REPORT
Mr Peter Williams (for Friedlaoder Bros. ) reports for the week ending Tueo* day, 7th February, 1888 — On Friday, the 3rd lnit, we held ft sale of blood itook at our Eait street Hone Bastat, on acooant of Messrs L. Marker. O. Dlgby, E. Gates, E. McGlri, ES. W. Bowyer and F. Babiell. There was a very lar*o attendance, bat we have to report, att'maqh we sold the majority of those offered, that it conld not be considered % utiaf^oto'-y sale from a breeder's poi t of vlaw. We started the a tie wish Mr L. Markey'a lot. Python, being first on the list, was started at 25 guinea?, and after spirited competition »cii to the nod of Mr Murray- Ay naley at SOJ^aineas The next lot was the thoroughbred entire, Roaaer. He being, we believe, the only thoroughbred son of Messenger reserred for stad purposes, oama la for keen competition, the bidding starting at 150 guineas, and then at 5 guinea bids belug qulokly ran op to 265 guineas, when he wai koookeddowa to Mr Olobbarn. The next lot was the well-known bay geldinn, Matagoirie, and went, for the small figure of 10 guineas to Mr J. Primmer, ad if he has got* gallop laft la him he should be » gift to his new owner at that price. Lots 4 aad 5 the two 4 year old fillies Sobriety aad Laveraa, cow lv tiainlag, not coming up to the owaer't I lea of valap, werepassea m. Lot 6 *as a well-grown 3 year 0 d .grey fill? by (liberal n, oat of Ka'O O'Shaae, She was well om etel for, aad Mr W. B. Birnard, 1 f New Plym >utb, became th« purchaser at 23 guineas, the same buyar abo getting the next; lot, a 2 y-ar old 'iheitnut sreldlng by Python out of La Vandetta at 7 gainea*. This should be a threat bargain as ho is full brother to Lavender. Lot 9, a 2 year old obeatnufc geldiug hy Python, out of The FJy, went to Mr Mark Scott at 6 guineas. Lot 10, * 2 year old grey fiiiy by Koaser, oat of L'3»rd, being paiobwd by Mr Maoe, of Wellington, for 7 guineas The yearlings were then offered, and sold at prices that could not possibly pay to breed at. Lot 11, a bay filly by Pyth m, fill to Mr S. Brown at 8 gaiueas Lot 12, a bay filly by Python, to Mr John OtrbM, at 5 galaoas. Lot 13, a bay filly by Python, to Mr f n%o Thompson a 5 guineas. Lot 14, a chestnut geiding by Python, to Mr Mark Scott, at 4 ga'neas. Lot 15, a obettnot gelding by Roaser, to Mr M. I. Brown at 5 guineas. Lot 16, a bay 6Hy by Python, to Mr Mark Soott at 4 guineas. Thnn oame the brood mares. Lots 17 and 18, Z <phyr and Perol, with Jihany Faulkner fWaat f'tot, which were passed In at 45 »nd 10 guineas reapeatively, Lot 19, The Twin, with Johnny F«alkaer fo»l at foot, fell to the nod of Mr J. Digby's trotting afcooif, bat there being uo demand for them they were all passed m. Lot 36, the chestnut mare, Redwing, was sold on ace >nnt of Me E. MoGlrr, to Mr M, MoEUinsey (or 10 guineas. Then oame, the pick of the youag stock* Lot 44, Mr E. Gates' 2 year bay gelding, Mnrat, by Apremont (imp), out of Miss K»te (imp). This yoaagater oame m for very spirited competition. He started at 30 guineas, and ran ap to 78 guineas, Mr Sam Brown being the purchaser. A yearling brother to the above was next (offered and withdrawn at 63 guineas. On Saturday, the 4 1 .h January, we held our weekly sale of horses, &o, at oar East street Horse Bazaar. Oar entry oonststed of 15 horsea, but owing io the harvest being m fall swing very few bayers were about, consequently few horses changed hfcnds, We quote ;■ flood upstanding draughts at £25 to £30 j medium, £15 to £21 ; Inferior, £9 to £12 10a.
