Melbourne, Jtanarj 31 The silver mania here is now subsiding. Mr G. F. Thurea, Inspector of Mines and Geological Surveyor of Tasmania, has inspected the Broken Hill country, and reports that the formation is teeming with silver ore of high value. There is also a considerable i deposit of native silver, and the geological evidence is very favorable for an extension of the works. Mr Thurea goes on to say that from wnat he has seen underground, this meialhferous ( belt will, if properly worked and managed, become one of the permanent sources of the wealth of the c6lonfes interested. ' A fire broke out m Messrs £erguson and Urse's glass factory, situated on tfye banks of the Yarra, this morning, The factory was completely destroyed, together with several adjoining buildings, the fire burning for some hours. The damage is estimated at ,£io,ooo, and the insurances amount to
