A PETROLEUM GAS-CANDLE

A candle-lamp, burning the gas of petroleum, has been invented by Mr Ohandor. The lamp has the form of a bedroom candleßtfck, tha oil being contained m tha boltcm portion, and a lppiicd to a small central reservoir, m which the wick Hog. Air Ib admitted into the main receiver through a pin bole, and foil we up the consumption of the oil. The wick passes up a central tube, and is ignited at the top. A glass chimney encloses the whole. There are thus two flunesia thla gas-oaadle, the saull lower one pro* daoing the gas, and the large apper one oonsaming it and giving the light. There are arrangement) foe tho proper supply of air to the burner, and for preventing any accumulation of gas m the reservoir, thas rendering the lamp perfeotly a&fo m this respect. The charge of petroleum is 4cz and this l*ats eight hoars, the light sjveu being equal to If osndle, at a stated oost of a farthing for the eight hours, taking petroleum at 8d per gallon, and assuming the gilloa to we gh 81 b.— 11 English Mechanic."
