, • « Yesterday • being very much of the nature of a holiday, was taken advantage of by the tennis players to advance the tournament. | The first game played waß the single, be- j [ tween 0. C. Fooks and P. Field, which the former won rather easily, the soores being 6 -1, I—6, 6—3, 6-3. The final of the doubles, between Messrs A. Fooks and Oliver, and Messrs Crisp and Strange, began at _ p.m., and resulted m a good matob, tbe former, however, having always the best of it. The winners played well together, and put m plenty of good work at the net. Tbe losers did not appear to have practised so muoh together, and though Strange at times put m .ome very ef.eo.ive strokes, and both exerted themselves, their opponents always seemed to have a little up thoir sleeve, and won somawhat easily at the finish. The eooreß were 6—B, 3—6, 6- -3, 6—4. It is needless to say tbat the viotors oame m for a hearty round of applause from the onlookers. Strange tad E. J, Fooks then played off their game m the second round of the singles, tha former being looked on as a perfeot moral. He won at the finish, but it Was not without the gamest of struggles on the part of his op. ponent, Fooks astonishing everybody by the way he stuck to his man. The Hcores were __6, 6-3, 6-0, 5 -6, 6-3
