John Galbraith, member of the Government survey party, left camp between here and Opotiki on Christmas morning for town and ha_t not since been heard of. Search parties have gone ont but are not expected to find Galbraith alive.

A largo pnblio meeting was held last night to urge on the Government to complete Cedar Creek dray road; It wa. resolved tbat a deputation nf the County Chairman and the mayors of Ross and Hokitiki proceed to Wellington, and Government be asked to procure report* from the Warden, the Chief Surveyor, ar d Mr Gow, Inspeotor of Mines, to sho?? the Important nature of the dieooverieß and the genuineness of the field.
Two mere leases have been applied for Rsngitoto.

At a meeting to take steps to have the district represented at the Melbourne Exhlbitlon, It was resolved, without dissent, that owing to the laok of interest displayed, and also to the faot that Government could not see their way to grant more then £25, the me. ting considered the movement should lapse m the mean time.
Invj-hoargiil, January 26 The Borough Council, as the new River Harbor Board, have received notice from the Auditor-General that he wonld ba compelled to suroharga tha amount of the Board's overdraft upon the members who sanctioned it, unless arrangements were made with the Bank as to the time of payment, and such received the Governor's ss.no ion. A. special meeting of the Board was to night arranged for, m order to consider the financial position and prospects of the harbor. A membar mentioned that the Board was so bare of foods, that It was a question whether they should pass staff salaries amounting to £36. The position of the Board arises from the purchase of a dredging plant, which is now laid up, there being no funds to pay the workman.
