At the Federal Council a ; Bill providing for the bringing of pearl fishers of Queensland under the control of the } Government 'of the colony, was read a } second time; : Hitherto the fishers • have disclaimed the authority of the colony. jßlr Lee Steere, who repi esents Western Australia, said a similar Bill I was ' urgently needed for Western ' Australia, but no action was taken. '- The federal quarantine question and the Chinese question were discussed. All the representatives favored legislation on the subject, but recognised they could do nothing advantageously until all the colonies were federated. At the Federal Council to-day, the Queensland fishery proposals were approved and passed. The next sitting of the Council has been fixed for February 10th, 1889, and it willadjourn to-morrow.
