JtYDNBY,. Jauuary 17. The American ship J. T. Berry, bound from Philadelphia to J^pan, took fire at sea on tbe 9th inst. The fire spread over the vessel so rapidly that the crew had barely time to escape, which they did m two boats. One ot the boats, containing the captain, mate and twelve of tbe crew, was picked up by a passing vessel and last night was towed into the heads at Nambucca river, 341 miles north of here. The occupants of the boat suffered great hardships and encountered very rough weather before being picked up. The second boat, which had eleven men 00 board, is missing but it is thought probable that they would make for New Zealand.
