EXPORTATION OF BUTTER AND CHEESE TO ENGLAND
> A considerable quantity of butter and i cheese (says the • W«ir?ifapa Dai'y'') is now bsing shipped from here to tbn English market by means of the direct steamer 000 l chambers. Besides the five tons of oheese being Bent by tbe Grey town Faotory, the Dalefield Dairy Compauy sent seven tons by the last trip of the Dorio, and the Taratahl Company also despatched several tons recently. The butter, of whioh a local export is steadily developing, has mostly been sent m smaller parcels, and the N Z. Loan and Mercantile Company have lately despatched a considerable number of consignments. The latest account sales from London show that Wairarapa butter has realised there 50i to 70« a cwt, and this is for inferior to medium quality only There is no doubt that a really first-class article would fetch about 100s, and Canterbury butter has gone as high as 120 i per cift (n the Home market.
