Wellington, January 14 The Local Naval Brgiade entertained the seamen of tbe squadron at a ball la.fc night. Accident on a Rifle Range. Whilst a squad from tbe Nelson was practising at the butts here yesterday, a ■plinter from a bullet struck a seaman named Sampson (who was engaged marking) In the left eye destroying the sight. Another Gold Discovery. The Minister of Mines has reoeived a telegram from Mr J. B_ Clendon, R. 01. at Whangarel, to the effect tbat payable gold has been discovered at Upper Walhou, Hoklanga, on the land of H< kia Potoare, and tbat assays made resulted m 30oz to the ton. Singular Fatal Accident. A little girl, daughter of Geo. Gaikln, residing at Taratahi West, met with her death by falling on the point of a sheep ■hears severing her jugular vein. . Sndden Death. Napibr, January 14. Mr J, M. St Olalr, of the firm of Brooking and St Clair, was found dead ln hia bed this morning. The deceased gentleman was suffering from lung disease.
