For publishing an early closing canard, entitled " Dan't shop," without attaching an imprint, Messrs Jones and Son wore this morning fined £5, the lowoet possible sum under the Act. The evidence showed tbat the imprint had been omitted m the harry of getting up, there being no intention of breaking tbe Act, and the E.M. Intimated that he would take steps to lav the case before the authorities with a view to getting a refund.

A Stolen Yacht Recaptured. Chribtchuroh, January 13 The yacht Dido was captured abonfc 10 o'clock last night, A telephone message was received from the beads at theLyttelton police station that -the yacht was two miles outside the heads. Sergeant M»i ~>r Mason and Constable P. MoOorralck went out m a steam launch; When the men on board the yacht heard the engine they extinguished the light and altered their coarse, but the launch was too near. Two men, brothers named White, were on the . yacht. They cast off tbe tow line several I times but did not offer other resistance.
