WAKANUI ROAD BOARD

A meeting of this Board was held on Saturday, January 7th. Present — Messrs M. Bruce (Chairman), Jas, Brown, G. Coo and W.T. Lill. CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were read :— (1) From Oommls■loner of Crown Ltndß re direct road from Drotnore to Ashburton stating th*t reserve 1774 was under the control of the County Council — It was resolved to ask the Council's consent to the laying oft a road through the .reserve. (2) From Miles aud Co. on the same subject,— The Surveyor was directed to forward further particulars. SURVEYORS BBPORT. The Surveyors report was road as follows :— (1) Cbertsey Road : The work of clearing tussocks on this road has been oompleted satisfactorily (2) Wilson's Boad : As authorised at last meeting, tenders were called for metalling portion of this road. Ot. Cole's tender »t Is 3d was accepted. The work is being proceeded with.— The maintenance man has levelled a portion of the road aufficlent for metalling but we think it would be advisable to have the sides reformed as they are at present very high and rough (8) Traction engines: Wa would ask what action will the Board take with referenoe to traction engines travelling the district. Several of the bridges and culverts are not able to carry them . (4) The maintenance man's diary lies on the table. Clause 3 — ?esolved to give notice to traction engine owners that the bridges and culverts are not fit for such heavy weights, and that the Board will bold them responsible for any lnjary done.
