VICTORIA.
I Melbourne, Jannaryd, Two large bush fires have occurred ■ m the Mount Gambier district, and have | caused widespread destruction. Crops, sheds, implements, and over 10,000 ( sheep have been burned. ; Government are considering the de--1 sirableness of imposing regulations for . the admission of foreign warships to Hobson* Bay. The proposal to build a bridge over the river Murray at Yarra Wonga, the cost to be jointly borne by Victoria and New South Wales, has been abandoned, the latter colony objecting to the diversion of traffic to Victoria, which would result, and to the expense. The exhibition of pictures by the proprietors of the Grosvenor Art Gallery has closed. The sale of pictures has been very small, only 25 having been disposed of, The remainder will be shipped home m the Valett*. Owinj; to the exhibition not being a financial success it was decided nqt to visit Sydney. The reported outbreak of smallpox at Balranald has proved incorrect. The sufferer is a new chum, and W4B bitten by inos^attos,
