A correspondent at Gisborney lays :— <( Mr Gordon. Inapeotor of Mines, Is now visiting the South Paotfio petroleam well to report officially to the Government. Work is m full swing at the Minerva Company's works after the holidays, The strata now being passed through ace getting harder, containing sandstone streaks. Tiiero Is little caving to oontend against. A depth of 205 feet had been reaohed on Saturday, notwithstanding that work bad been stopped some days. Everything is going on well, A Prew Association telegram states that the Gls« borne " Herald" has received a cable message from Sydney stating that a new Company is to be formed, for the pntpooa of working oil m this district. — " Telegraph.''
