A MODEL DAIRY FARM

The Central Board of Health m VictorA has reoeived an interesting report; from Mr John Taylor, market inspector, relative to the dairy farm of Me J. S. Morgan, near Epping m that colony. The report reads aa follows : — •' There aro 300 cows milked, and the miik ia sent to Melb ui-ne twioe a day. The oows graze over 6000 acres of leasehold lands, on which are very extensive buildings, with lofts, for storage of bran and chaff, a Tangye boiler and eng'ne, which is used for catting chaff, orushiug oata and peaa and mangoldß, and a circular saw for cntting wood. An iron tramway has been constructed for conveying the food for the cows, from the mixing rooms to the cowsheds, with turntables to branch off to the different milking ehede three of them oontalng 68 stalls with feed box to them. Each of ihe jallklng sheds are laid with briok, set with cement and pitched with otone m the centre, with drains suitably constructed. AH the manure is carefully swept up daily, and carted away a suitable distance into a padd ok. The greater part of the large receiving c ttle yards are pitched with stone, and coostautly scraped, the manure being carted away. There ib an 18 stall stuble m first- clasß condition, and twi largo tanks, boding about 60,000 gallons of water supplied from the iron roofing of the efltublibhwent The water is drawn ont by a Tangye pump to Bupply the refrigerating plaut. Tne dairy and cheese-making ■ ooms, and tin-can washing pluoes are well and suitably constructed ; every can ia e'eaueed out with a jet of bteam passed up through a bench whore the men turn them, and they are rinsed out with cold water There are 28 men employed with the milking, 20 additional at preseat harvesting. The bedrooms for the men are m a clean condition The pigstyes have cemented floors, with a good fall to the main drain, which is also « einented) to the paddock. The men's dining room and kitchen adjoining ar« scrupulously clean. The whole of the eßtabiahment is a credit to the proprietor.
