A REWARD

An idea seems to be running about loose m the world (says the " Melbourne D uly Telegrupb) that the Government of tbiß colony has got a sum of £50,000 to confer on the i dividual who invents a scheme for annihilating rabbits. A gentleman living m Oldham, Lancashire, England, with an eye to realising a fortune, has written to the Agent-General, stating that he is prepared to send out 20 men, experienced m rabbit-catching, -who will work night and day until they kill every bunny m the land. All he asks is that their passages shall be paid, and the £50,000 handed over when they have finished their work. It is not the intention of the Lands Department, to whom the letter has been forwarded, to show undue haste In dosing with the offer. Another genius named Jacques, of Newo«stle-on-Tyne, also prompted by a prospective fortune, proposes to tend out < 1500 dogs of the Bidlington and Rodney breeds, together with a few otter terriers, and he advised that the animals ihould be distributed amongst squatters. He thinks that the dogs oonld be obtained for from £5 to £6 15s each, and urges the Government of Victoria to keep very quiet, or else such a large order for dogs will raise the market price. It will be some time before this gentleman receives a cheque.
